AMD Zen 3 chips already sold out at retailers

In news that should surprise absolutely nobody, AMD’s new Zen 3 processors have been quickly scooped up by scalpers.

The blazing fast CPUs created quite the stir when they were announced back at the start of October. They finally shipped to retailers this week. Though unfortunately, you’re not likely to get any. Most retailers are reporting zero stock, yet you will find plenty on eBay and criminal prices.

I was in Canada Computers today, and I can corroborate that I did not see any for sale on store shelves. Which is par for the course for 2020. Nearly every tech product released this year has seen CCPVirus related shortages, with supplies not expected to normalize until at least early 2021.

Speaking of which, if you’re thinking of picking up one of AMD’s fancy new RDNA2 graphics cards, ASUS is already warning that those will likely be in short supply as well.

It will be quite limited I think that it will sell out quickly. More RX6800, less 6800XT … as with basically all graphics cards now, we expect that everything will be gone in a few minutes so you need to hang on the lock. Then it is 1-2 weeks later until we start delivering our Partners cards, too early to say what the supply looks like there, but the demand will probably continue to be great,” an ASUS rep said on the Sweclockers Forums.

So it looks like we’ll all be sticking with our current gaming systems for a little while longer. Unless you’re stupid enough to pay the eBay scammers’ prices.
