A few months back, we reported that a legendary Nintendo PlayStation prototype had been discovered. At the time, we weren’t sure if this thing actually worked, or even if it was authentic.

Now we can say for sure that it’s real, and it’s spectacular.

Engadget met with owner Dan Diebold and his father Terry at a retro gaming expo in Hong Kong last week to chat about the device.

Terry says he won the console in an auction after Advanta, the company he worked for, filed for bankruptcy. Olaf Olafsson, then CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, had been on Advanta’s board of directors.

After that, it was tossed in the attic. His son Dan rediscovered the rare system earlier this year.

Dan and the Engadget team fired up the Nintendo PlayStation for to play some Street Fighter.

It’s compatible with most existing Super Famicom games. Unfortunately, the CD drive no longer works.

You can check out the full interview as well as a teardown by heading over to the Engadget article.
