Nothing like an old fashioned format war. Nearly ten years ago, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD went head to head in a battle royal to decide the next high definition video standard.

Spoiler alert: Blu-ray won. Largely because the format’s owner, Sony, decided to incorporate it in the PlayStation 3. Well, that and they owned a major movie studio. Toshiba’s HD-DVD just couldn’t compete. Even though the format was arguably better in some respects, studios eventually pulled their support for the larger, DRM laden format.

If only Microsoft had incorporated HD-DVD into Xbox 360. Well, they did… sort of. Lord Karnage takes a look back at the add-on that was doomed from the start.
