Everybody’s favourite Swedish gamer PewDiePie isn’t impressed with Nintendo’s plan to share Let’s-Play ad revenue with YouTubers.

Back in 2013, Big N had forbid YouTubers from making money off videos featuring its content. Now they’re wanting to make a concession. They’ll still take a cut of the ad revenue, but will share a portion of it back with content creators.

The top bro conceded on his Tumblr that Nintendo is fully within their rights to do this, but notes that Let’s Play videos have become a vital part of video gaming marketing.

“But what they are missing out on completely is the free exposure and publicity that they get from YouTube / YouTubers. What better way to sell / market a game, than from watching someone else (that you like) playing it and enjoying themselves?

This is why a tiny one man indie game like Minecraft could grow into a 2.5 billion dollar deal. That’s 2.5 billion… Made possible, largely because of the exposure it got from YouTube!”

While the Japanese industry continues to show hostility towards the Let’s Play community, Western developers have embraced the concept as a way to keep generating product buzz.

Pewds notes that Nintendo risks having their games overshadowed by competing products. “When there’s just so many games out there to play. Nintendo games just went to the bottom of that list. Even if more publishers starts implementing this idea of sharing revenue, then fine, there’s always going to be plenty of games out there.”
