Shuhei Yoshida, president of SCE World Wide Studios, is apologizing for the Drive Club fiasco.

In a message posted on the game’s Facebook page, he said “unfortunately, the road to launch has been a little rocky, and we are truly sorry that so many of you have not been able to enjoy everything that we had hoped DRIVE CLUB would deliver.”

The game was initially delayed a year. When it finally came out, many users couldn’t log on to the social racer’s network. Now the free-to-play PlayStation Plus version has been delayed indefinitely.

Sony claims the servers would not be able to handle the high volume of players.

“On behalf of WWS we are enormously grateful for your patience and we thank you for the continued support and encouragement. Again, we sincerely apologize for the delay. We are committed to giving you the best racing experience on PS4 – it’s taking a little longer than we hoped.”

Drive Club was one of the PS4’s high profile launch games, and one of the few exclusives for the system. Many gamers are understandably upset. Especially those who forked over money for the retail version. Some are taking to social media to demand compensation.

The company says they are putting priority on getting issues fixed for paid players. It’s not the first time a high profile game has run into this type of problem. You’d think they’d learn to test loads first rather than leave things to the winds of fate.
