It must be that time of year again. iPhone 6 rumors are coming hot and fast, so that must mean it’s getting close to another keynote. This latest one has to do with how much memory it will have, or lack there of.

Apple, as always, have been very tight lipped about what will actually be inside the iPhone 6. However, luxury phone customizer Feld & Volk has given us some insights through leaked pictures of the logic board. Namely that juicy A8 processor that will be powering the thing.

Parts numbers listed on the chip packaging indicate that it contains 1 Gigabyte of Hynix branded RAM. The very same that was used on the iPhone 5S. This has some Apple fans scratching their heads.

Ever since iOS transitioned to 64-bit, users have noticed their iPhones bogging down more frequently than in the past. This is because most apps are still 32-bit, and therefore require their own separate resources. This consumes more memory and robs performance. So most people thought Apple would compensate by giving the iPhone 6 more memory. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. While iOS tends to manage memory better than Android does, it can still struggle when opening large files, or multitasking. Even on the older 32-bit devices with the same amount of memory.

Apple also seems poised to retain 16GB of flash for the base model iPhone 6. If you’re going to charge $719 for the phone off contract, you damn well better have more than 1GB or RAM and 16GB of storage. Especially when competing high end phones have been offering double that for a couple years now.

What do you guys think? Will the lack of additional memory be a deal breaker? It’s certainly got me considering an Android phone after being a long time iPhone user.
