The original Doom was one of the most controversial games in history. Blamed for shootings, called a murder simulator. Despite the fact that shooting monsters was nothing new at the time. The controversy did overshadow a lot of what went on behind the scenes to make the granddaddy of first person shooters. Like how John Carmack thought games didn’t need narrative, or how Bill Gates stared in an ad for the game, or how there were more copies of Doom being played than computers running Windows 95. DYKG takes a look at the phenomenon that started the glut of shooters we all know and love/hate today.
