We’ve been talking a lot about the Vita lately. Or rather, how poorly it’s doing.

Extra Credits has a bit of a different take than ours. Perhaps the Vita failed because it’s too good. Are we not worthy of such a powerful handheld?

We all know that the Vita has very good graphics for a handheld. Games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush are just gorgeous. This expectation pushed development costs higher than the 3DS.  Studios didn’t want to gamble on a system with a low install base and lower game prices. Which lead to the drought of games. Which made gamers less likely to purchase the system, leading to fewer developers wanting to take a risk on it. This created a death spiral that continues to haunt the platform.

It seems the Vita has reached the point beyond saving. Gamers want good games, not good graphics.
